Reggae - Dub Ska
- Worldmusic
Hello!
I would like to introduce myself to you! I am DJ Nesta, born in The
Netherlands, but since 1997 living in the Czech Republic. For more
than 20 years I am collecting and playing reggae, ska dub and
world-music.
Since
the end of 1998 I am playing at reggae-parties, first only in Brno,
but later also in clubs and at festivals elsewhere in the Czech
Republic..
The
style I am playing is based on roots
reggae, which had its golden era
from the mid 70ies until the mid 80ies. Great reggae-artists and
bands like Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, Culture and Bob Marley made
their best recordings during that period. You will also here a lot of dub during my performances - Old 70ies stuff, as well as today´s dub performers like Vibronics and, of course, Zion Train.
|
 | | My favourite singer, composer and produce is Lee
"Scratch" Perry (1936!), whose music is for me a great source of
inspiration. Roots-reggae
is the basis of my playing, but regularly I am adding other ingredients
to my
musical mix, like ska,
dub,
and world-music.
This increases the
variety and makes the parties more exiting and colourful.

Toasting
Already
for several years I have been writing my own lyrics, and since 2002 I
started with live singing and toasting at reggae-parties. Toasting is a Jamaican
invention from the early 70ies: Talking and singing over the
instrumental B-sides or remixes (called “dub-version“
or just
“version“)
of 7- and 12-inch singles. Famous names in the world
of toasting are Yellowman (Very popular at the end of 70ies and
during the 80ies) and - of course - U-Roy, who started his career at
the beginning of the 60ies and who is still recording and performing
today.
